Kaum waren die bayrischen Thrasher BATTLECREEK auf Tour mit den spanischen Thrash Göttern von ANGELUS APATRIDA, da nutzt das Hellfire die Möglichkeit und hat sich mit Christian “Chriss” Meisl unterhalten und versucht ein paar Infos zur zuletzt veröffentlichten Scheibe “MAZE OF THE MIND” (https://www.hellfire-magazin.de/battlecreek-maze-of-the-mind/) herauszukitzeln.

HM: Hallo Chriss! Danke, dass Du dir die Zeit genommen hast. Ihr seid vor kurzem mit ANGELUS APATRIDA auf Tour gewesen. Wie war es mit ihnen auf Tour zu sein, und was habt ihr für Euch mitgenommen?
Chriss: Es war eine tolle Erfahrung! Wir hatten großen Respekt, weil wir bisher nur maximal mal fünf Tage am Stück unterwegs waren. Dann gleich 17 Shows mit nur einem Day Off! Vor allem unser Sänger hatte schonmal ein, zwei schlaflose Nächte im Vorfeld. Außerdem wars spannend, ob unser Van auch die 8500 km ohne Panne durchhält. Aber sobald wir dann unterwegs waren, wars einfach nur geil! Tagsüber ist man im Bus auf Stand-By, aber sobald abends dann unser Intro durch die Anlage kam, waren wir wieder voller Power und hatten jeden Abend eine Menge Spaß auf der Bühne! Die Jungs von Angelus Apatrida haben sich sehr gut um uns gekümmert, und die Spanisch-Bayerische Mentalität hat von Anfang an Super zusammengepasst!
HM: Da es ja immer wieder Probleme mit Touren bis hin zu Absagen gibt; wie verlief die Tour und wie war der Zuspruch an Metalheads?
Chriss: Wir hatten durchwegs ein gutes Feedback und die Konzerte waren eigentlich recht gut besucht. Viele hatten Angelus Apatrida erst letzes Jahr auf der Death Angel, Sacred Reich Tour im Vorprogramm gesehen und sind jetzt wieder gekommen.
HM: Denkt ihr Tourabsagen und schlechte Vorverkäufe ist ein rein deutsches Problem? Oder zieht es noch weitere Bahnen?
Chriss: Gute Frage, vielleicht sind die Deutschen ein wenig verwöhnt, das kommt aber auch wieder auf die Region an. In Polen merkt man schon noch etwas mehr Enthusiasmus, da will dann jeder noch ein Foto und ein Autogramm.
HM: Euer neuester Longplayer ist seit über zwei Monaten auf dem Markt. Wie war die allgemeine Reaktion auf “MAZE OF THE MIND”?
Chriss: Wir sind sehr happy damit! Von allen Seiten kamen gute Kommentare und Reviews, Danke übrigens für dein tolles Feedback! Auch unsere Videos sind sehr gut angekommen. Wir haben sehr viel Arbeit reingesteckt und durch Corona und Label Suche hat sich die Veröffentlichung lange verzögert. Aber letztendlich war es jetzt der perfekte Zeitpunkt und das Warten hat sich gelohnt.
HM: Wie seid ihr bei der neuen Scheibe vorgegangen? Habt ihr etwas verändert im Gegensatz zum Vorgänger “HATE INJECTION”?
Chriss: Ich würde sagen, bei der “Hate Injection” waren wir noch etwas spontaner. Wir haben diesmal noch länger daran gefeilt und Teile wieder umgebaut und ausgetauscht. Man will ja immer noch einen drauf setzten he he. Dieses Mal haben wir auch eine ausführliche Vorproduktion bei mir Zuhause gemacht. Im Lockdown konnten wir nicht Proben und die Jungs sind abwechselnd zu mir gekommen um an den Songs zu basteln.
HM: “Nach der Tour ist vor der Tour!”. Was sind eure weiteren Pläne für dieses Jahr? Und weiter für die nahe Zukunft?
Chriss: Jetzt freuen wir uns erstmal auf die Festivalsaison! Wir haben außerdem ein Paar coole Support Shows in der Gegend z.B mit unseren Helden von Exodus und haben erst vor kurzem mit Destruction gespielt. Das sind Mal echte Highlights! Wir bleiben dran und versuchen uns weiter zu entwickeln.

The Bavarian thrashers BATTLECREEK have barely been on tour with the Spanish thrash gods ANGELUS APATRIDA, Hellfire took the opportunity to talk to Christian “Chriss” Meisl and tried to get some information about the last released album “MAZE OF THE MIND” (https://www.hellfire-magazin.de/battlecreek-maze-of-the-mind/).
HM: Hello Chriss! Thank you for taking the time. You were recently on tour with ANGELUS APATRIDA. How was it to be on tour with them and what did you take with you?
Chriss: It was a great experience! We had a lot of respect because we’d only ever been on the road for a maximum of five days in a row. Then 17 shows with only one day off! Especially our singer had one or two sleepless nights before. It was also exciting to see whether our van would last the 8500 km without breaking down. But as soon as we were on the road, it was just awesome! During the day you’re on stand-by in the bus but as soon as our intro came through the speakers in the evening, we were full of power again and had a lot of fun on stage every night! The guys from Angelus Apatrida looked after us really well, and the Spanish-Bavarian mentality was a great match right from the start!
HM: Since there are always problems with tours, even cancellations. How did the tour go and how was the response from metalheads?
Chriss: We had consistently good feedback and the concerts were actually quite well attended. Many people had Angelus Apatrida seen last year on the Death Angel, Sacred Reich Tour as support act and they came back now.
HM: Do you think tour cancellations and bad pre-sales are a purely German problem? Or is it still a topic in other countries?
Chriss: Good question, maybe we Germans are a bit spoiled, but that also depends on the region. In Poland you notice a bit more enthusiasm, everyone wants a photo and an autograph.
HM: Your latest longplayer has been on the market for over two months. How was the general reaction to to “MAZE OF THE MIND”?
Chriss: We are very happy with it! Good comments and reviews came from all sides, thank you by the way for your great feedback! Our videos have also been very well received. We put a lot of work into it and due to the pandemic and the search for a label the release delayed for a long time. But in the end it was the perfect time and the wait was worth it.
HM: How did you proceed with the new record? Did you change anything compared to the predecessor “HATE INJECTION”?
Chriss: I would say we were a bit more spontaneous with “Hate Injection”. We spent even longer on it this time and rebuilt and exchanged parts. You always want to go one better Hehe. This time we also did an extensive pre-production at my home. We couldn’t rehearse in the lockdown and the guys came to me in turns to work on the songs.
HM: “After tour is before tour!”. What are your plans for this year? And for the near future?
Chriss: Now we’re looking forward for the festival season! We also have a couple of cool support shows in the area e.g. with our heroes from Exodus and just recently played with Destruction. Those are some real highlights! We’ll keep at it and try to develop further.
