Mit dem Hellfire Quick5 Interview versuchen wir für unsere Leser möglichst interessante Infos aus den Musikern rauszukitzeln, ohne dass sie sich seitenlangen Fragen/Antworten hingeben müssen. Wir vom Hellfire bemühen uns dabei, (mehr oder weniger) kurz und prägnant im Rahmen von 5 Fragen zu agieren (manchmal kann eine Frage auch gedoppelt oder getrippelt sein); den Musikern obliegt es, nach ihrem Gutdünken zu antworten: kurz und knapp bis hin zu ausschweifend und umfangreich.
Diesmal sprachen wir mit Alve Bjerde, Bassist der schwedischen Power Metal Formation VANDOR, die am 25. Januar 2019 ihr Debüt-Album „In The Land Of Vandor“ veröffentlicht haben (das Review findet ihr HIER).
HF: Die Band existiert bereits seit 2015. Da ihr ja gerade erstmals in das Licht der Öffentlichkeit tretet, stellt euch doch bitte einmal vor. Wie seid ihr zusammengekommen, was sind eure musikalischen Hintergründe? Und warum hat es so lange gedauert, bis “In The Land Of Vandor” das Licht der Welt erblickt hat, da es zumindest auf Facebook den Anschein hat, als hätte es zwischenzeitlich einen längeren Break gegeben?
AB: Hallo und vielen Dank!
Ja, Vandor wurde offiziell im Jahr 2015 gegründet, obwohl wir schon vorher unter einem anderen Namen und verschiedenen Besetzungen existierten. Ursprünglich wurde die Band von mir und meinem Bruder Vide gegründet. Wir machten gleich nach dem Band-Start eine Pause, in der wir keine Live-Shows spielten, sondern uns auf das Schreiben von Songs konzentrierten. Im April 2016 kam Jack L. Stroem als Leadgitarrist zur Band, aber es hat bis Juni 2017 gedauert, bis wir unsere erste Live-Show mit ihm gespielt haben. Nach einigen weiteren Besetzungsänderungen begannen wir mit den Album-Aufnahmen, wobei mitten im Prozess Keyboarder Uno Rosengren zur Band stieß. Der Aufnahmeprozess hat seine Zeit in Anspruch genommen, und wir freuen uns sehr, das Album endlich mit euch zu teilen! Auf dem Album hat Robin Risander von Mark Zero die Drums eingespielt.
HF: Wie läuft das Songwriting generell bei euch ab? Wer schreibt die Songs, nur einer von euch oder die ganze Band? Welche Themen verarbeitet ihr hauptsächlich in euren Songs und warum?
AB: Die meisten Songs des Albums wurden ursprünglich von unserem Leadsänger Vide geschrieben, aber dann von der gesamten Band arrangiert, wobei alle Mitglieder den Songs ihre persönliche Note gegeben haben. Zwei Songs (“Possessive Eyes” und “Uncover the Earth”) auf unserem Debüt wurden von der gesamten Band geschrieben, komponiert und arrangiert. Für das nächste Album planen wir, mehr Material als komplette Band zu schreiben. Die meisten Songs sind aus einer Fantasy-Perspektive geschrieben, in der wir verschiedene Emotionen und existentielle Themen behandeln. Oftmals haben wir eine bestimmte Intension mit dem Text, aber wir halten ihn auch gerne offen für Interpretationen. Du kannst unserer Musik also entweder eine tiefere Bedeutung beimessen und versuchen, viele unserer Worte als Metaphern zu sehen, oder du kannst zuhören, wie Krieger Drachen mit alten Schwertern töten. Es liegt ganz bei dir!
HF: Ihr habt bei einem Track namens “Well Of Salvation” mit Sabaton Gitarrist Tommy Johansson zusammengearbeitet. Wie kam es zu der Kooperation und warum hat es der Song nicht auf eurer Debüt geschafft?
AB: Ja, das haben wir! Jack ist seit einigen Jahren mit Tommy befreundet, und Jack hat 2012 sogar ein Solo auf einem von Tommys Solo-Alben eingespielt. Jetzt baten wir ihn, den Gefallen zu erwidern, und er hat es gerne getan! Die ursprüngliche Idee war, den Song auf das Album zu packen, aber dann wurde uns klar, dass es besser wäre, ihn erst später zu veröffentlichen. Unser Debütalbum “In the Land of Vandor” hat bereits eine Laufzeit von knapp einer Stunde, was für ein Debüt schon ziemlich lang ist, also dachten wir, es wäre besser, nicht noch einen zusätzlichen Track auf das Album zu packen. Wir werden “Well of Salvation” stattdessen Mitte 2019 als eigenständige Single veröffentlichen.
HF: Obwohl euer Debüt gerade erst erscheint, arbeitet ihr bereits an einem Nachfolger für “In The Land Of Vandor”. Was dürfen wir denn von Album Nummer zwei erwarten, denn – und das meine ich nicht negativ – ich gehe mal nicht davon aus, dass es größere stilistische Unterschiede geben wird…
AB: Ihr könnte davon ausgehen, dass es schneller, melodischer, epischer – mehr Power Metal – wird! Wir versuchen auch, progressivere Elemente in unsere Musik einzubringen.
HF: Während der Arbeiten an eurem Album wart ihr auch live nicht untätig. Wie sind eure bisherigen Lieve-Erfahrungen, wie sind die Reaktionen der Fans die euch erstmalig kennenlernen und wie sehen eure Pläne für 2019 aus?
AB: Wir haben einige Live-Shows gespielt, vor allem in unserer Heimatstadt Göteborg, und wir sind dankbar für all die positiven Reaktionen, die wir erhalten haben. Unsere Release-Party findet im Hard Rock Café in Göteborg statt, und unser Plan nach der Veröffentlichung ist es, viele Gigs zu spielen! Wir haben ein paar Live-Shows gebucht (leider noch nicht außerhalb Schwedens), und wir sind sehr gespannt, wohin uns dieses Album führen wird!
HF: Ein paar letzte Worte an unsere Leser?
AB: Unser Album ist als physische CD und ab dem 31.Januar auch auf Spotify erhältlich. Ich hoffe, ihr seid genauso aufgeregt wie wir!

Hellfire Quick 5 interviews try to gather a lot of interesting information within the narrow frame of five questions and five answers. Sometimes a query may be divided into two or three partial questions. It’s up to the musicians to answer short, longer or excessively.
This time we talked to Alve Bjerde, bassist of the Swedish power metal formation VANDOR, who released their debut album “In The Land Of Vandor” on January 25, 2019.
HF: The band has been around since 2015, and as you’re just about to appear in public for the first time, please introduce yourselves. How did you get together, what are your musical backgrounds? And why did it take so long for “In The Land Of Vandor” to see the light of day, as it seems on Facebook as if there had been a longer break in the meantime?
AB: Hi and thank you!
Yes, Vandor was officially formed in 2015, even though we existed before that under a different name and line-ups. Originally, the band was formed by me and my brother Vide. We kind of took a break right after the start, where we didn’t play any live shows, and instead focused on writing songs. In April 2016 Jack L. Stroem joined the band on lead guitars, but it would take to June 2017 before we had our first live show with him. After some further changes in the line-up we started recording the album, with keyboardist Uno Rosengren joining the band, in the middle of the process. The album process has taken its time, and we are very happy to finally share it with you! On the album session musician Robin Risander from Mark Zero is playing the drums.
HF: How does the songwriting work in general? Who writes the songs, just one of you or the whole band? Which themes do you mainly use in your songs and why?
AB: On this record most of the songs are originally written by our lead singer Vide, but has then been arranged by the whole band, with all members giving their personal touch to the songs. Two songs (”Possessive Eyes” and ”Uncover the Earth”) on our debut are written, composed and arranged by the whole band. For the next album we are planning to write more material as a full band. Most of the songs are written from a fantasy perspective, where we are treating different emotions and existential subjects. Often we have some kind of idea with the lyrics, but we also like to keep it open for interpretation. So either you can make some deep meaning out of our music and try to see it a lot of our words as metaphors, or you can choose to listen to warriors killing dragons with ancient swords. It is all up to you!
HF: You worked together with Sabaton guitarist Tommy Johansson on a track called “Well Of Salvation”. How did the cooperation come about and why didn’t the song make it on your debut?
AB: Yes we did! Jack is a friend of Tommy since a few years back, and Jack actually played a solo on one of Tommy’s album in 2012. Now we asked him to return the favor, and he was happy to do so! The initial idea was to put the song on the album, but then we realized it would be better to release it later. Our debut album ”In the Land of Vandor” already has a running time close to an hour, which is quite long for a debut, so we did not think putting an extra track on the album, would make it any better. The track ”Well of Salvation” will instead be released as a stand alone single in mid 2019.
HF: Although your debut is just about to be released, you are already working on a sequel to “In The Land Of Vandor”. What can we expect from album number two, especially since – and I don’t mean that in a negative way – I don’t expect that there will be bigger stylistic differences…
AB: You can expect it to be faster, more melodic, more epic – more power metal! We are also trying to bring more progressive elements to our music.
HF: While working on your album you weren’t idle live either. What are your live experiences so far, what are the reactions of the fans who get to know you for the first time and what are your plans for 2019 like?
AB: We have played a couple of live shows, mostly in our hometown Gothenburg, and we are thankful for all the positive reactions we have received. Our release party will be held at Hard Rock Café in Gothenburg, and our plan after the release is to play a lot of gigs! We have a couple of live shows booked (not outside Sweden yet unfortunately), and we are very curious to see where this album will lead us!
HF: A few last words to our readers?
